A Song from
Jean Redpath
1937-2014
From Fife, Scotland, and humble beginnings as a folksinger frequenting Greenwich Village venues alongside Bob Dylan and others, Redpath became something of an ambassador for Scottish folk songs, particularly those of Robert Burns. She recorded 180 of Burns’s 323 songs.
A Man’s A Man, by Robert Burns
This powerful song, about the value of all people regardless of wealth or classification, was sung here at the end of a Robert Burns concert in Cambridge Massachusetts in January 1991. Jean sings solo first, then is accompanied by fiddler Alasdair Fraser. See Alasdair’s instrumental version and commentary.
