NOW WESTLIN WINDS, by Robert Burns
“Now Westlin Winds" is one of my favourite poems and was written when Burns was very young. This love song, as well as celebrating the wonders of the natural world, tackles issues of social injustice, and is a protest against blood sports.
The melody, which I learned from the singing of Dick Gaughan, has become the standard tune associated with this poem.
